By knowing this company, when you come across your product, whether it’s in the most varied ways, our gaze changes. He shines, he vibrates, he is overwhelmed with so much creativity, talent and beauty in the pieces that come out carved practically straight from nature.
When entering for the first time in the furniture salon of Milan, especially in the pavilion where riva1920 exhibits its products, its presence is notorious, and, in particular, I can say that it was love at first sight and will be forever.
I approached the main entrance of the stand and as I was working as a press for a magazine in the south of the country, my access to some spaces and photos were quieter and allowed me to feel more each environment and try to understand how each process and product that took shape individually and as the whole also made sense. And the most charming of the whole process carried out with wood is that the brand manages to transmit its greater essence, the pride of its trajectory and the love of nature.
Close to completing its 100-year history, Riva1920 began its walk in a small town in northern Italy, 100 km from Milan in Cantú in the year 1920, small, familiar and specialized inthe manufacture of classic solid wood furniture. It passed through the period of the war, began a new family generation in 1970, but with the commitment to maintain the same appreciation of wood. And in1990, Maurizio Riva on a trip to the United States, was introduced the American culture of reforestation wood.
The presentation at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan took place for the first time in 1992 and from there was known throughout the country and internationally, with this, technological innovation and the industrial process for the company was necessary and inevitable. In 2000, in collaboration with internationally known designers, marks its evolution to the world of Sustainable Design. Another new generation of the Riva family starts in the company with a look at new horizons and markets, in addition to the American reforestation woods, were introduced the re-use wood the millenary Kauri of New Zealand, the Cedar of Lebanon and the Posts of the Venice Lagoon.
And, really it was magical to discover this story, especially speaking of the Posts of the Venice Lagoon, when I realized that in addition to Venice by itself already has a charm for its canals, riva1920 manages to bring this unforgettable city closer, in pieces of design with sustainable wood in which it is necessary to exchange it in times and times in the lagoon.
Divan: Meeting Point, by Riccardo Arbizzoni
And to this day, Riva1920 manages to surprise us. In 2010 he created the new Riva Center Building where he houses the Madeira Museum, in the city of Cantú, with a Showroom of 1200 square meters and more than 4000 pieces between machines and tools to demonstrate his passion and uniqueness in the use of wood.
Majestically, I present to you my favorite pieces so that you may be admired in the same way i admire you and that you can express all the importance of nature around us, how to care for, protect, and love you.

Earth, by Renzo and Matteo Piano/ C.R. & S. Riva1920
This earth table in Kauri wood and resin, is the metaphorist representation of the continents of the earth and its oceans. A fantastic idea realized by its designers.
In the Briccole collection, the oak stakes thatare fixed at the bottom of the Venice lagoon in order to reveal the waterways and tides for the ships that dock in this beautiful place, are always the protagonists. Lasting between 10 and 20 years, they need to be changed, and in this period serves as a natural habitat for molluscs that create these unique designs in each piece.

The Cedar of Lebanon is obtained by the mark when they fall due to natural disasters, being the landslides, strong winds, or that were knocked down due to the safety where they were.
From Baldessari and Baldessari, the Molletta as it is called, is a bench made solely of a block of cedar. The creation was carried out and designed for three sizes. Also, another idea is to use it in the vertical form to customize a wall in the chosen environment.
